The Best Anime Series and Films – Ever

Anime is a Japanese style of animated filmmaking, characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant colors and amazing fantasy themes. Nobody can be indifferent to it – some love it, others hate it. If you take a good look at Japanese films as a whole, you will see that some of its greatest masterpieces were created with a pen on paper, not so much with real actors playing in front of the cameras. Here are some of the best pieces of anime ever created.

1. Anime series

One of the most beautiful anime series ever created is Shinsekai Yori, a science fiction / fantasy adventure, a distopian vision of Japan a millennium in the future. Based on the award-winning novel with the same title by Yusuke Kishi, it follows the life of a girl called Saki against the backdrop of an incredible story and a devastating conclusion.

Cowboy Bebop is one of the best known anime series of all times. The story follows the adventure of a bounty hunter team on board their spaceship called Bebop in the mixed up world of 2072. It is a mix of several genres – noir and western, science fiction and many others, with a good portion of humor added, that leads to a relatable and very entertaining result.

And finally my personal favorite: Hellsing. It is a story about Alucard, a vampire controlled by the Hellsing family slash secret organization, with the goal of exterminating vampires and keeping the human population in blissful unawareness. Hellsing is a must see for all horror fans (and not just anime fans) – its stunning visuals, incredible action scenes and grandiose music will keep them pinned in their seats.

2. Anime movies

The man behind the best anime feature films in history is Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese film director, animator, manga artist, producer, screenwriter and storyteller. The anime movie considered the best one ever made – My Neighbor Totoro, released in 1988 – has won several prestigious Japanese awards, and was nominated for the Best Genre Video Release award at the Saturns in 1995. Several other works by Hayao Miyazaki – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke or Kiki’s Delivery Service – are considered to be among the top 10 anime feature films of all times.

Master Miyazaki’s latest feature film, called The Wind Rises, was released in 2013. There is currently no word about any upcoming project from the 74 year old artist.
